Hey there

Help! The silly season, Xmas, summer and the 2010 Football World Cup are all coming, and coming fast!

The air in Cape Town is electric - you can FEEL the buzz and it is awesome! With all the dancing and singing and vuvuzela blasting that Africa is well know for it is impossible not to get swept up in World Cup fever even if you are not the biggest fan of the game.

But while South Africa immerses itself in Football madness we shouldn't forget about the rest of Africa - and guess what - it will be half empty in the middle of next year while fans come south for the football!

So if the football is not your thing, but Africa is, stay tuned. If football IS your thing then get in fast before everything books out!

Either way have a safe, fantastic and merry festive season and all the best for 2010!

Happy travels!

Tania and the OverlandingAfrica team.

Well Said...

The desert is breathtakingly beautiful. When one experiences the majesty of creation, you realize just how insignificant we humans are, even though we sometimes feel we’re so important. - K Le Roux, Hermanus, South Africa.

Down and Dirty in Namibia!

Namibia has it all!

Namibia is one huge desert but who would have thought that amongst all that sand you could find a canyon so huge it is classed as the 2nd largest in the world, a dune so big you have to get to its base an hour before the sun rises to make sure you are at the top when it does and a cute and quaint coastal town that is widely known as an adrenaline junkies paradise!

Namibia is much more than a desert and there are so many opportunities to visit the north, the south or both.

Encounter endless views, long roads that lead to the most interesting and desolate destinations and unique, indigenous tribes. If you travel south you will find the famous Dune 45, (this is the one you have to climb before sun rise to really appreciate the magnitude and enormous space that encompasses you), before reaching Fish River Canyon whose rim you may hike around and appreciate the incredible views. The west coast boasts Walvis Bay and 1000’s of flamingoes before you reach the quaint coastal town of Swakopmund where activities will leave adrenalin junkies on a high! I won’t even mention the deserted ghost town that once upon a time was a thriving diamond miner’s home!

On a northern route you will be pleasantly surprised… Not only will you meet an age old cultural tribe known as the Himba’s but you will also stumble upon the Big 5 in Etosha National Park! Travel along the Skeleton Coast and if that is not enough you can stroke a cheetah at Cheetah Park and learn about why these beautiful cats are being so carefully protected.

I loved it so much I can't wait to go back - hope you do too!

Happy Trails!

Claire
